Course Code: HIS-DSC

Discipline Specific Course (DSC)

History of India c. 1200-1947 CE

Credit:4

Theory Examination: 90

Internal Assessment: 10

Course Objective: The paper will equip the students with the basic/conceptual understanding of India c. 1200-1947 CE
Course Outcome:

1. Understanding of Islamic political concept of India upto c. 1200-1947 CE

2. Understanding of emergence of native states in Medieval India

3. Understanding of movement of European trading companies in India

4. Basic understanding to National movements and contribution popular movements under Colonial regime.


Pedagogy of the Course

There will be direct teaching where the students will be referred to the primary works on India from thirteenth century to 1947 CE. There will be continuous evaluation of the students through assignments and semester tests. Towards the end of the session, there will be a written examination.

Instructions for the Paper Setters and the candidates:

1. The duration of examination shall be 3 hours with maximum marks 90. There will be 9 questions overall and the student is expected to attempt 5. Question no. 1 is compulsory. There will be 12 questions and students have to attempt any 9 questions in 25-30 words. Each short question carries 2 marks each. The students have to attempt one essay type question (in 700-1000 words) from each unit. Each essay type question carries 18 marks.

2. Internal Assessment will be divided into following criteria: -
Mid Semester Test:                                                                                                 : 5 marks

Assignment Report and Class presentation                                                          : 3 marks

Attendance                                                                                                                : 2 marks

Note:           For Private/University School of Open Learning Students, who have not been                                   assessed earlier for the internal assessment, the marks secured by them in the                                   written paper will promotionally be increased in lieu of the internal examination.
